About downloadables

You will need a colour printer and a PDF reader such as Adobe Reader to be able to open and print our downloadable images. The Adobe reader is completely free and can be downloaded now by clicking here. Once you have installed your PDF reader, you can download the free images that are available in each set to make sure you can successfully view and print them.

We do not recommend that you purchase large downloadable files if you are on a dial-up connection as some may take a long time to download.

Once the downloadable files appear on your account, they will be available for you to download and print as many times as you like subject to the Downloadables Terms of Usage shown below.

Purchasing

For the paid downloadables, add the items that you want to your shopping basket and proceed to the checkout. The minimum order is just £2.50 and your images will be available to download from your account shortly after payment. An invoice will not automatically be sent to you but if you require one for VAT and/or accounts purposes, please email us quoting your order number and we will email you back your invoice.

How to download

Your purchased images will be available to download from your account shortly after you have successfully paid. Your account can be accessed by clicking on 'My account' on the home page of the website or from the link on your order confirmation page.

Once you are in your account, click on 'View order history' and you will then see a list of your orders. Click on the relevant order (usually the top one) and you will then be taken into your order details. The downloadable items on your order will display a 'Download now' link next to them. Click on the link to start downloading the files.

The option of saving or opening the files will appear. You can open the files without saving but it's probably best to save them to your computer for easy access next time - do make a note of where you have saved them to avoid frustration! It's probably a good idea to create a new folder for your downloadables.

If you do lose your downloadables on your PC or have trouble downloading them, you can always download them again from your account.

Printing

Always print your images onto good quality paper or card. Ordinary printer paper is not usually good enough quality and will look like exactly what it is. I like to use a slightly textured card or paper such as hammer paper or card, or laid card for printing. Pearlescent card and paper can also looks lovely for certain downloads. If you print certain shades of grey or mustard-yellow onto pearlescent card or paper, the print looks like silver or gold. I've found that Stardream paper often gives a better, clearer finish than pearlescent card especially for wording, but this probably depends on the detail in the item you're printing. It's worth experimenting with different qualities and finishes of card and paper if you're preparing for a special project such as your wedding invitations.

If you are printing a single page from a set, make sure you select the option to only print the current page or your printer will start churning out the whole set!

Borderless printing

All downloadables have been made to fit an A4 sheet of paper. If you don't adjust your print settings when you print our images, they will probably print with a narrow (4mm) border. Most printers will have an 'edge to edge' or borderless print setting in the print options or advanced options that will allow you to print without a border. On our Canon printer, you need to select 'File', 'Print', 'Properties', 'Page set up' and then check the 'borderless printing' box and OK. This will of course vary from printer to printer so check your printer handbook or play around with your printer settings to see if you have this option. This may not be available on older models but most modern printers will have it.

Ink

Printer ink can work out expensive if you print lots of downloadable sheets but there are some things you can do to cut the cost drastically. Consider switching print cartridges to a cheaper compatible cartridge other than the ones made by your printer manufacturer. These are usually a fraction of the cost of the real thing and are just as good.

On some of our images, the print covers the whole sheet. Often the same sets will include a similar image with a clear background that can be printed onto coloured card, so saving the amount of ink that's used. For example, product 7513 is black and red stripes but there is also a black striped image in the set (7508). The black stripes can be printed onto red card for the same look but using half the ink.

The standard quality print is usually good enough for making cards, especially when just a small piece of paper is used. High quality will usually use more ink whilst the draft or print save quality will use less ink and you may get a more subtle, pastel effect which may be pleasing on some designs. Experiment for best results.
